“100 Years of the Oregon Blue Book”

What is the Oregon Blue Book? It has nothing to do with car prices. It is the state's almanac and fact book that has been published regularly since 1911. Historian Darrell Jabin will discuss Oregon history and show his new short film “100 Years of the Oregon Blue Book” on Tuesday, June 5, from 12 noon – 1 p.m., at the Medford Branch Library, 205 South Central Avenue, and on Thursday, June 7, from 12 noon – 1 p.m., at the Ashland Branch Library, 410 Siskiyou Boulevard.

Mr. Jabin combed through the past books to find some of the most memorable events of the last 100 years. These included women winning the right to vote, the fire that destroyed the capitol building, the 1959 Oregon centennial celebration, and the Columbus Day Storm. He also lined up interviews with the current and four former secretaries of state and more than two dozen current and former elected officials who are sharing their comments about the Oregon Blue Book.

This free event is sponsored by the Friends of the Medford Library and the Friends of the Ashland Public Library. For more information, please call Jackson County Library Services at 541-774-6996 or visit www.jcls.org.
